The event was devoted to summing up the XV Conference of the partner cities of Russia and Germany, as well as the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the International Association of Cities.
During the plenary sessions, podium discussions and working groups, the high importance of maintaining Russian-German dialogue at all levels, as well as the key role of civil initiatives and public diplomacy in strengthening trust and understanding between Russia and Germany are repeatedly emphasized. As noted by Dirk Wiese, a member of the Bundestag, coordinator of inter-social cooperation with Russia, Central Asia and Eastern Partnership countries, today relations between Russia and Germany determine the nature of relations in Europe and in many respects the situation in the world as a whole. Through civilian connections in the form of partnership and twinning of cities, new bridges are being created and existing bridges are being strengthened through cooperation projects. Every year the mutual demand for dialogue, trust and mutual understanding grows. Under these conditions, public diplomacy becomes a reliable platform where initiatives can be implemented without the influence of political factors.
The next Conference of the partner cities of Russia and Germany will be held on the territory of the Russian Federation. In the near future, the city will be declared, which will be given the honor of becoming the venue for holding the Conference in 2021.
