After the games of the FIFA World Cup 2018, the overhaul of the overhead catenary will be considered.
This was announced by the Director of the City Transport Department Gennady Kleimenov.
“One of the priorities for the Don capital is the development of clean transport,” emphasized the Director of the Department. “Thus, in 2016, 16 new domestic low-floor trams were bought, which successfully cruise the city’s routes. In the current year, it is planned to purchase 14 more low-floor trams.”
It is also planned to purchase 150 large-capacity diesel buses with the Euro-5 environmental engine and 50 large-capacity buses powered by gas engine fuel, which is aimed at improving the ecological state of the city.
The next step is the repair of the overhead catenary that requires major repairs, and the repair of cable lines and equipment at traction substations.
For this reason, the route No. 8 (Tenth Bearing Plant – Central Market) is not served at the moment.
Therefore, in order to improve the quality of transportation for citizens living in the area of Portovaya Street, the movement of bus Nos. 4 and 34 (Tenth Bearing Plant – Central Market) is planned to be arranged by a ring scheme with a simultaneous increase in the number of rolling stock until the end of this year.
As explained by the Director of the City Transport Department, the restoration of the overhead catenary at the expense of the Municipal Rostov Transport Company is currently impossible due to the negative financial results and the difficult financial situation at the company as a whole. Therefore, the possibility of repairs will be considered after FIFA World Cup 2018.
In addition, the City Administration is optimizing the city’s route network, which is aimed at developing cleaner transport in Rostov, in conjunction with experts from the Don State University.
