The Solemn Opening of the Voroshilovsky Bridge Took Place in Rostov-On-Don

The Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov and the Governor of the Rostov Region Vasily Golubev thanked the bridge builders for the timely and high-quality reconstruction of the Voroshilovsky Bridge. The ceremony on September 23 was also attended by the head of the Rostov-on-Don Administration Vitaly Kushnaryov.

The reconstructed bridge has reliably and comfortably connected the right and left banks of the Don capital. There are three lanes in each direction. Now the bridge is designed for the movement of 80 thousand cars a day as against the previous 19 thousand. The central span is extended to 150 meters – now even large vessels can pass under it. Behind the bridge, on the left bank of the Don, there soundproof screens. The installation of elevators for pedestrians – two on each side – will be completed by the end of October.

The total cost of work amounted to RUB 6.3 billion. Notably, part of the funds came from the Platon system. The reconstruction was carried out in record time for such a facility – 4 years, recalled the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

“Voroshilovsky Bridge is the main entrance to the southern capital. The new highway will significantly reduce the time of travel through the Don and relieve congestion, and allow comfortable travel of thousands of fans during the upcoming World Cup 2018,” said Vasily Golubev.

During the opening, retro cars moved along the new six-lane ferry – a kind of tribute to history, as the Voroshilov Bridge, a visiting card of Rostov, was built in 1960.
