On Tuesday, April 18, the Head of the Rostov-on-Don Administration Vitaly Kushnaryov met with the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey Yunus Emre Oziggi in Novorossiysk. The meeting was also attended by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Rostov-on-Don Yuri Zikeyev, the Deputy Head of the Rostov-on-Don Administration for Economic Affairs Dmitry Chernyshov, the Head of the Department for External Relations and Intermunicipal Cooperation of the Rostov City Administration Maria Krylosova and the Head of the Department for International and Intermunicipal Cooperation of the Rostov City Duma Galina Skripka.
The cooperation of Rostov with the Republic of Turkey is conducted in various arrears. Turkey is one of the main foreign trade partners for both the city and the Rostov region, accounting for 16% of the total turnover. According to Vitaly Kushnaryov, the transformation of bilateral Russian-Turkish cooperation into specific projects is possible through business meetings and business missions.
“The Rostov-on-Don City Administration is always open for international contacts. Therefore, if you want to repeat the experience of colleagues from the Republic of Belarus, who transferred the Embassy from Krasnodar to Rostov in 2010, we will welcome you hospitably,” said the mayor. “The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Rostov region can become a good platform for dialogue, which has an agreement on cooperation with the Chambers of Commerce of the Turkish cities of Trabzon and Istanbul.”
Vitaly Kushnaryov also noted that the city administration is interested in accepting business missions of Turkish business circles with a view to presenting available investment sites and substantive discussion of areas of cooperation. According to him, projects in the construction industry, housing and municipal services, as well as trade and services can become interesting. The meeting participants also discussed cooperation with the sister city Antalya. Joint projects are realized both in economy and education, culture and sports. For example, the Rostov State Railway University cooperates with the Akdeniz and Mehmet Ersoy universities. Rostov creative teams took part in the days of Russian culture in Antalya.
“We have received the offer of the Antalya City Council for participation in the project of youth exchange within the framework of the Erasmus Plus program. The project provides for the participation of young athletes with disabilities in sports competitions this summer,” said Vitaly Kushnaryov.
Yunus Emre Oziggi was appointed as the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in the city of Novorossiysk on April 1, and, despite the fact that this has happened quite recently, he has already decided to visit the South Capital as he considers it a promising partner for cooperation.
“I paid my first courtesy visit to the city of Rostov, because the Southern capital is a really important partner for Turkey in terms of cooperation and good neighborly relations,” said Yunus Emre Oziggi.
